Green Feathers

Within the Everyone Home Safe app, a new form of recognition has been added: the Green Feather. This award was created to highlight employees who demonstrate exemplary behaviour in the field of sustainability. Hanab awards a Green Feather every quarter to a project or to one or more colleagues. By gathering all initiatives each quarter, we gain better insight into what is happening both within and outside the organisation in terms of sustainability, and we can learn from one another.

Investment in site huts with solar panels

August 2025 – A Green Feather was awarded to Hanab Energy Solutions during the handover of new site huts to all supervisors in our cable division. All huts have been replaced and redesigned in the new corporate style—custom-built and with sustainability in mind.

The cable teams contributed ideas, which they can now see in practice. The larger site huts are equipped with no fewer than six solar panels, allowing coffee to be made, refrigerators to run, and hand tools to be charged.

This is a great example of how the involvement of colleagues—who know exactly how the huts are used—combined with our sustainability goals, resulted in a win‑win situation

Use of hydrogen generators and reuse of pipeline sections

July 2025 – A Green Feather for Lars, Chris and Ruud for their efforts on the coupling pipeline project in Ommen, part of Gasunie’s framework contract for transport pipelines. At this location, an existing natural gas pipeline is being prepared for future hydrogen transport.

Because the project site is near a Natura 2000 area, only limited nitrogen emissions were permitted. A de‑ironisation installation for groundwater treatment was therefore used, operating fully emission‑free on hydrogen and battery packs.

The team also focused on circularity: leftover pipe sections are donated to the technical training school in Papendrecht, where they are used for welding practice.

Use of recycled casing pipes

April 2025 – At Hanab, we are working towards a circular and CO₂‑neutral future. Our goal is for all projects to be 100% circular by 2040.

Arjan Rijkmans, project manager at Hanab Infra Solutions, is already actively contributing on the Obdam–De Goorn project in Heerhugowaard, part of Alliander’s HELIX NHN programme. Thanks to collaboration between INOPLAST, Alliander and Hanab Distribution, 19 km of 100% recycled PE casing pipes are being used in open trench excavations.

The result? A CO₂ saving of no less than 174,191 kg—comparable to the annual emissions of around 10 Dutch households.

This sustainable choice earned Arjan and the teams a well‑deserved Green Feather.

Rensa

Smarter planning and reducing packaging materials and transport

February 2026 – Every three months, we recognise colleagues who demonstrate what sustainable craftsmanship looks like. This quarter, the Green Feather goes to Denny and the EDGE Eindhoven project team.

Together with supplier Rensa, Denny introduced a new way of working: smarter bundling, forward planning and making CO₂ emissions transparent. This resulted in fewer journeys, lower emissions and a much smoother logistics flow on site.

Packaging was also handled more carefully, with as much pre‑assembly as possible. This means less waste and fewer small deliveries.

A great example of how craftsmanship, teamwork and smart organisation contribute to our sustainability ambitions.

Elektrische boringen

11 fully electric drillings

April 2024 – Ossenzijl saw the first fully electric drilling, including excavation work and cable installation—and that was just the beginning.

The team went on to complete no fewer than eleven electric drillings in Moergestel, followed by another fully electric drilling in Ansen. In total, this resulted in a CO₂ saving of 8,550 kg. It also significantly reduced noise pollution and improved the health of both colleagues and the surrounding environment.

This was celebrated with a well‑deserved Green Feather!
