Pillar: Social safety

Social safety – together, we ensure a respectful and trustworthy place of work

Social safety is a central component of the ‘Everyone home safely’ programme. A safe place of work is about more than just physical safety – it is about how we treat one another. At Hanab, we believe it is important that everyone feels respected, heard and free to undertake their work properly.

Social safety means that colleagues support one another, hold each other accountable and give one another space. It means that we value our differences, respect boundaries and ensure that everyone can work with confidence and enjoyment. This way, we can work together to build a culture in which everyone feels safe and feels safe to be themselves.

Our approach: open, respectful and collaborative

We foster a culture in which employees treat one another positively, have the courage to hold one another accountable and always know where to turn. We do this by:

✔ Making clear agreements within the team

  • Agreeing how we treat one another.
  • Ensuring a safe environment in which everyone has a voice.
  • Allowing inappropriate behaviour to be properly discussed, and dealing with it promptly.

✔ Fostering an open culture of accountability

  • Holding one another accountable for unsafe or inappropriate behaviour in a way that is friendly and clear.
  • Thanking and appreciating one another for good teamwork and collaboration.
  • Share concerns promptly so that problems do not become larger than necessary.

✔ Providing accessible support

  • Providing confidential advisors and managers to answer questions or receive reports.
  • Taking reports seriously and acting with care.
  • Working together to find solutions that contribute to a healthy working environment.

Tips for social safety at Hanab

  • Listen actively to colleagues and show that you value their input.
  • Speak up if something feels wrong as this usually fosters understanding.
  • Be aware of the surroundings: if you see something that isn’t right, speak up. Say it.
  • Be mindful of language and tone: words and jokes can have different effects.
  • Support one another by celebrating successes and giving one another feedback respectfully.

We work on social safety together

Everyone has an influence on the culture at Hanab. By treating one another with care, supporting one another and respecting boundaries, we create an organisation where everyone can do their work with confidence and get home safely every day.

Everyone home safely. Social safety. Together, we make it happen.
