MedicomZes | Hanab construction consortium begins large-scale refurbishment
Contract signed for refurbishment of the Cardiovascular Intervention Centre at Amsterdam UMC
Amsterdam UMC and the MedicomZes | Hanab construction consortium have signed a construction contract for the refurbishment of the Cardiovascular Intervention Centre (CVIC) at the AMC site.
The signing marks the official start of the construction project, which combines renovation and new-build work. Amsterdam UMC has thus taken an important step towards realising the largest Cardiovascular Intervention Centre in Europe. The new department will contribute to the future of cardiovascular care in the Netherlands.
Refurbishment in an operational hospital
The work will take place in the existing hospital at the AMC site, which will remain fully operational throughout the project. ‘A key boundary condition is maintaining the continuity of patient care and vital processes. That demands smart phasing and close coordination between construction, engineering and logistics,’ explains Albert Bok, speaking on behalf of the MedicomZes | Hanab construction consortium.
The first phase will see the completion of procedure and angiography rooms and an MRI suite, followed by consultation, examination and office spaces in the second phase. The new layout has been designed to minimise walking distances for both employees and patients. Pre- and post-treatment care will be centrally organised in a lounge that connects the two building sections.
New centre for the healthcare of the future
The refurbishment is part of the wider refurbishment programme at Amsterdam UMC. The current intervention centre will be replaced by an innovative working environment that combines state-of-the-art medical technology with efficient care processes. This will create a modern, functioning intervention centre that is fit for the healthcare of the future.
