Spectacular underground installation of a heating network in Delft
No less than eleven cranes were used simultaneously to lift a 180-metre pipeline into place.
The pipeline was routed with extreme precision under a busy road and a flood barrier – an impressive sight for anyone watching.
The work was part of the construction of a new heating network, carried out by specialists from Hanab. This phase marked a significant milestone in a project that has been in progress for ten years. In total, around 6,000 rental properties will eventually be connected to the heating network, getting their heat not from gas, but from hot water drawn from deep underground.
Councillor Maaike Zwart told the FD: ‘Delft is a city that breathes technology and I think it’s fantastic that such a complex project has been successfully completed here.’ Hanab project manager Rik Wessel reflects with pride: ‘A great deal of preparation went into this, and the men in the cranes have done this many times before. Yet it remains a spectacular moment for us too.’
