Pillar: Safe place of work

Safe place of work – an environment in which everyone can work responsibly

A safe place of work is one of the key pillars of the ‘Everyone home safely’ programme. At Hanab, we believe that safe working conditions not only reduce the number of incidents, but also contribute to long-term employability, engagement and job satisfaction. We respect the health and well-being of all of our employees and ensure that the working environment is suited to their physical and mental capacity.

Every colleague must be able to carry out his or her work safely, responsibly and with confidence. Something that requires clear agreements, appropriate support and the proper design of our places of work.

Our approach: safety for everyone

✔ No children at operational locations

Children up to and including fifteen years of age are strictly prohibited from entering operational locations. The risks at these locations are too great and require complete focus and professional competence.

✔ Policy on young people (ages sixteen to eighteen)

We only permit young employees to undertake work under strict conditions:

  • There is a personalised plan tailored to the work.
  • A permanent, adult and professional supervisor is always present.
  • A progress review takes place at least once every two months.

This approach ensures that young employees can learn and work safely.

✔ Accessible places of work for colleagues with disabilities

All colleagues are entitled to a work environment that suits their abilities. Colleagues with disabilities are provided with an adapted place of work and access to all facilities, so that they can participate fully and safely.

✔ Communication for non-native speakers

At locations where safety is paramount, language must never be allowed to pose a risk. Therefore:

  • Non-native speakers who do not speak Dutch to a sufficient level must command of English at B2 level at a minimum.
  • Managers must be proficient in both Dutch and English at B2 level at minimum.

This helps us to prevent misunderstanding and ensures clear, safe communication.

✔ Care for pregnant and breastfeeding employees

Our duty of care means that we pay additional attention to employees who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Hanab:

  • Provides a suitable breastfeeding area and sufficient time for breastfeeding.
  • Ensures that there is no heavy lifting.
  • Ensures no access to operational locations. Ensures that health and safety always come first.

✔ Support for older employees

With a view to long-term employability, we ensure that tasks, workload and working hours are tailored to what an employee can actually manage. For colleagues who are – relatively speaking – more affected by the physical or mental nature of the work, we seek to provide a suitable workload and flexibility in tasks and schedules.

Tips for a safe place of work at Hanab

  • Look out for one another: if you see something that is unsafe report it immediately.
  • Know the rules: never work outside established procedures or agreements.
  • Be aware of your own limits: fatigue or overwork increase the risk of incidents.
  • Use aids: lifting and work aids are there to prevent physical strain.
  • Actively communicate: repeat agreements, check that everyone understands and ask questions if in doubt.
  • Respect differences: everyone works differently – that too is part of a safe place of work.

Working together on safety

A safe place of work doesn’t just happen, we create it together. By following clear guidelines, helping one another and acting responsibly, we ensure a working environment where everyone can work healthily and safely.

Everyone home safely. Safe place of work . Together, we make it happen.
