Replacement and expansion of HV substation
Excellent teamwork from Hanab Energy Solutions
The project in Dodewaard was established in collaboration with TenneT and focuses on replacing outdated transformers. In early 2024, Hanab Energy Solutions began preparations for the installation of a new transformer and coil field, combining underground cables with connections to overhead high-voltage lines.
Design and execution in parallel
We first put together a team of a technical manager, a number of engineers and operatives to review the design. The design phase and the execution phase would normally follow one another, but in this case they were carried out in parallel due to the urgency of the project. This required rapid coordination and flexibility, both from the engineers and from the entire team. Thanks to this close collaboration between engineering and execution, changes to the design could be implemented quickly, without having to constantly go back to the original design. Working with our partner Van Hattum en Blankevoort, the focus so far has been on civil engineering.
Megatransformer
In three weeks, the field foundations, the shear walls, the field house and the first steel and components have been installed. We have also started excavation work for the 150 kV cable. We will now continue with component assembly. The panels for the new field house will be delivered shortly, and secondary cable pulling will begin next week. Van Hattum en Blankevoort, meanwhile, is putting the finishing touches to the transformer cell with soundproofing, grating floors and the final groundworks. The shear walls have also been installed to prepare the transformer cell for the transformer. The new megatransformer has arrived on site amid considerable media interest. We are now working towards the next milestone: the installation of this 500 MVA transformer and 50 kV compensation coil.
